REVIEW: Mary Poppins at the Westchester Broadway Theatre

July 17, 2014
REVIEW: I had the opportunity to see Mary Poppins at the Westchester Broadway Theatre and it was amazing. The movie that I saw as a kid came to life in front of my eyes. Seeing Mary Poppins fly into the show is just as magical as when I saw it as a child. The music, costumes and acting were incredible. Jane and Michael Banks, Mr. and Mrs. Banks, Bert, the house staff and Mary herself were so talented. I want Mary Poppins to be my nanny and take me on all these  wonderful adventures! My favorite parts were the musical numbers "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious", and "Chim chimmerey" -- the choreography and music captivated the audience from start to finish. I enjoyed hearing some audience members humming along to well known favorites.

This is a great show for everyone of all ages!  Mary Poppins is just as magical as the first time the movie was shown many years ago. You will sing along to the well-known songs like you were a kid again. Mary Poppins reminded me to
to cherish the little things and the ones you love. Buy your tickets and enjoy a delicious meal right before the show and then sit back and relax and see Broadway right here in Westchester. Tell them New City Nyack Macaroni sent you!

The cherished 1964 Disney film has been re-imagined into a spectacular new musical.  The show has been created, in collaboration with Cameron Mackintosh, by Academy Award-winning screenwriter and Downton Abbey creator, Julian Fellowes.

It delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Featuring all of the unforgettable songs of the movie, timeless classics, such as “Feed the Birds”, “Jolly Holiday”, “Step in Time”.

Bert, the jack-of-all trades, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes both children and adults alike on many magical and memorable adventures, discovering a world where “anything can happen if you let it”.
